The redesigned Sony WH-1000XM5 replaces the swingarm on its predecessor, this time with an exposed head beam that connects directly to the earcups.

The ear cups are also larger this time, in order to reduce wind noise when going out.

However, the weight of the headset is 4 grams lighter, only 250 grams.

The function operation of the headset is carried out on the touchpad with no button design, and the ear pads are made of synthetic leather material.

Like the previous model, the Sony WH-1000XM5 has a battery life of 30 hours on a single charge with ANC on and 40 hours with ANC off.

It can be fully charged in 3 hours, and thanks to support for the Power Delivery fast charging specification, you can get three hours of playback time in just three minutes on the charger.

The earphones have eight microphones that have been moved to a carefully designed position for improved noise cancellation, which can better filter and cut high-frequency noise.

At the same time, there are four built-in beamforming microphones in the fuselage to improve the quality of voice calls.

In addition, the NC/Ambient button now replaces the custom button on the previous generation, however, users can continue to customize the button and have the option to use it for voice assistants.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 also brings new 30mm drivers, and with the right source device, the headset supports LDAC for high-definition audio delivery, as well as SBC and AAC, as well as DSEE Extreme upscaling for compressed audio .

Last but not least, Sony’s 360 Reality Audio Spatial Sound continues to be supported.

As mentioned before, the head beam section is no longer allowed to fold, which means that the random case is now larger, and for wired devices, Sony also provides a 3.5mm jack cable with the headset.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 will cost $399, $50 more than its predecessor, and will be available in white, silver and black.

They’ll be available for purchase on Amazon and other retailers starting May 20.
