Red Hat officially releases OpenShift 4.10: supporting Arm architecture and more cloud platforms.
Red Hat officially released OpenShift 4.10 last month, which uses the CRI-O 1.23 runtime and Kubernetes 1.23, adds support for AI and NVIDIA AI Enterprise 2.0 certification, uses a smarter OpenShift console, supports Arm architecture, and more.
Many public and private cloud platforms and sandboxed containers (OpenShift Sandboxed Containers) are officially GA.
Instead of publicly releasing OpenShift Container Platform 4.10.0, Red Hat released OpenShift Container Platform 4.10.3 as a GA release.
OpenShift Container Platform 4.10 requires Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.4 and 8.5, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux CoreOS 4.10.
Sandbox container
Sandboxed Containers (OpenShift Sandboxed Containers) provide an optional extra layer of isolation for workloads with stringent application-level security requirements.
OpenShift has also been improved in disconnected or air-gapped setups, simplifying the installation process for disconnected OpenShift clusters.
This simplifies the maintenance of OpenShift images and keeps them up to date as if they were an interconnected cluster.
Arm architecture support
OpenShift Container Platform 4.10 now supports ARM on AWS EC2 A1 and bare metal platforms .
Instance availability and installation documentation includes supported installation methods on different platforms .
OpenShift Container Platform on ARM supports the following features:
- OpenShift cluster monitoring
- RHEL 8 Application Streams
- OVNKube
- AWS Elastic Block Store (EBS)
- AWS .NET application
- NFS storage on bare metal
OpenShift Container Platform on ARM supports the following operators:
- Node Tuning Operator
- Node Feature Discovery Operator
- Cluster Samples Operator
- Cluster Logging Operator
- Elasticsearch Operator
- Service Binding Operator
A smarter OpenShift console
The new version improves the console and optimizes the developer experience. The main changes are:
- Show cluster support level
- Support for dynamic plug-ins (technical preview stage)
- Support for running pods in debug mode
- OpenShift Pipelines as code (Technology Preview stage)
- Sign and verify pipelines with Tekton Chains (developer preview stage)
- Argo CD Dashboard supports displaying OpenShift resource health status
Support more cloud platforms
The new release expands the supported cloud platforms, including IBM Cloud (Technology Preview), Alibaba Cloud (Technology Preview), and Azure Stack Hub.
