Hard drives in the second quarter hit a record: Seagate ranks No.1

Hard drives in the second quarter hit a record: Seagate ranks No.1.   Shipment volume of mechanical hard drives in the second quarter hit a record: Seagate maintains No. 1 in sales.

Mechanical hard drives are far from the point where they are so-called abandoned by the market and disliked by consumers.

Trendfocus’s latest statistics show that in the second quarter of this year, the shipment capacity of mechanical hard drives reached a record 350.7EB, a record high. This was mainly due to the high demand for data centers and the popularity of Chia’s mining.

In terms of manufacturers, Seagate shipped 28.17 million units, Western Digital shipped 25.4 million units, and Toshiba shipped 13.98 million units.

According to the type, the mechanical hard drives consumed by consumer-grade PCs are still the largest, among which 14.61 million desktops were shipped and 18.78 million notebooks were shipped.

However, from a month-on-month perspective, the shipments of consumer-grade mechanical hard drives have declined, but the enterprise-level has experienced double-digit growth.

Judging from the data report in the second quarter, mechanical hard drives seem to be promising, but Nidec, a major manufacturer of hard drive motors, remains pessimistic about the future of the market.
