Google Hangouts to stop service on November 1 and all data will be deleted in January 2023

Google Hangouts to stop service on November 1 and all data will be deleted in January 2023.

Google Workspace announced that the Google Chat service will completely replace the Google Hangouts service.

The company disclosed its plans to disable Google Hangouts on the web and migrate data to Google Chat on the web.

Earlier this year, the company mentioned that Google Chat would become the default messaging app, and that users accessing Google Hangouts via the Gmail web, Hangouts mobile app, and Hangouts Chrome extension would be automatically redirected to Google Chat.

According to today’s announcement , Google Hangouts will officially end its service on November 1, 2022.

According to the company, more information on exporting data and Vault changes will be emailed to administrators.

While most data is automatically exported to Google Chat, some data may be forgotten; in this case, Google will notify the appropriate user.

The company said it moved to Google Chat because the upgrade will provide users with “a single messaging solution and better integration across Google Workspace.”

The update also comes with other features like tagging users in chat, sharing GIF and emoji reactions, and accessing chat from Gmail.

All Google Workspace users, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, will get the update in early November.

Additionally, users can download chat data through Google Takeout until January 1, 2023 (Pacific Standard Time, GMT-7), after which all data on Hangouts will be deleted.
