Appwrite sets the fund to improve the problem of insufficient income of open source authors.
Open source has now been used to create almost all modern computing technologies, and open source is also the backbone of many technologies and services.
It is such an important field that affects many aspects of society, but there are still many project developers and maintainers. remuneration.
To help address this, backend-as-a-service (BaaS) platform Appwrite has launched a new Open Source Software Fund (OSS Fund), which in its first year will provide support for today’s digital infrastructure, but not A $50,000 bounty is awarded to developers who get paid accordingly.
According to the Linux Foundation , open source now accounts for 70% – 90% of all software. In order to ensure the long-term sustainable development of the open source ecosystem, it is very important to provide appropriate rewards for those who contribute to this field.
Eldad Fux, founder and CEO of Appwrite, said:
Open source advances the world’s technology, but many of the companies that benefit from it contribute little to the open source community. As a company born out of open source, we understand how important it is to create a healthy ecosystem for this. We’ll support developers and maintainers with some of Appwrite’s successes and investments, and look to the future in a way of giving back. We hope our contribution will make a difference.
Applications for the fund are now open and will be accepted annually.
As for how the funding will be allocated and who decides, Eldad Fux said Appwrite will form a committee composed of internal team members and members of the Appwrite open source community who will jointly decide which projects are most eligible for funding.
