Apple releases iOS/iPadOS/macOS maintenance updates to fix multiple high-risk security vulnerabilities
Before the official release of iOS 16, Apple released maintenance updates for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
The macOS 12.5.1 , iOS 15.6.1, and iPadOS 15.6.1 releases released today include fixes for several security vulnerabilities that may have been exploited by hackers.
This update is a mandatory security update, and Apple recommends that users complete the upgrade as soon as possible on eligible devices.
This security update release fixes 3 security vulnerabilities.
CVE-2022-32894 is a kernel-level vulnerability that allows unauthorized applications to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
CVE-2022-32893 is a WebKit vulnerability that allows arbitrary code execution through “crafted malicious web content.” Several Apple apps , including Safari, use WebKit, and the company’s Mail app uses WebKit to render and display content.
The vulnerabilities reside in low-level code that Apple uses widely, so previous macOS versions like macOS Catalina and Big Sur are also likely to be vulnerable.
However, Apple has not released any patches for these older versions.
Nonetheless, Apple has been sending regular security updates to these releases.
In other words, Apple could soon send patches for these versions.
